Several clinical studies have confirmed the role of
medical gloves in preventing contamination,
dissemination and transmission of pathogens in
healthcare settings. Thus, gloves should be worn as a
precaution throughout patient care activities that may
involve exposure to blood and body fluids and during
outbreak situations.
Nonetheless, improper glove storage, and
inappropriate techniques for glove donning and
removing, may result in microbial transmission. Once
contaminated, gloves can instead become a source
for transmitting microbes to healthcare workers,
patients and environmental surfaces.
ANTIMICROBIAL GLOVE:
Contrary to conventional medical gloves that serve only as a passive barrier between microbes and your hands, AMG antimicrobial gloves can play a pivotal role to reduce cross-contamination and microbial transmission by using its microbe-killing mechanism. The AMG antimicrobial glove is designed to kill microbes on the outer glove surface rapidly upon contact. Its key ingredient, a photosensitiser, is incorporated on the outer glove surface. Upon exposure to light, the photosensitiser reacts with oxygen in the immediate vicinity to generate singlet oxygen. This singlet oxygen is highly reactive and rapidly oxidises multiple structures of a microbial cell (including lipids and proteins), thus leading to the death of microbes. Ultimately, AMG antimicrobial glove minimises the risk of microbial transmission from an infection source to a susceptible patient.
